CAGV Education Fund Announces Contest Winners

The winner of the essay contest (and a $500 award) is Harding High School Freshman Louise Lisboa. Louise attends the Health Magnet at Harding. Lisboa's essay discussed the various ways that one person can take action to reduce gun violence.

Honorable mention winners of $100 were Joe Amrani of Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School in New Haven, and San Quach of East Hartford High School.

The winning art piece was submitted by Newington High School student Jennifer Chen. Jennifer's work stood out for its powerful message on the toll gun violence takes on Connecticut families.

Honorable mention winner was Barbara Heffermehl, Stamford Academy of Information Technology. Barbara's piece was a unique combination of art and fiction that dramatized the effect of school violence on teens.
The youth-centered project is being partially funded by a matching grant of $10,000 awarded by Co/Motion, the Youth Division of The Alliance for Justice in Washington, D.C. Co/Motion is specifically concerned with the issue of gun violence.
